宮脇綾子は1905年、東京生まれ。厳しい時代に3人の子を育てつつ40歳の時に終戦を迎えます。

それまで防空壕の往復に取られていた時間になにか自分だけの仕事をしようと、身の回りにあった布でアップリケを始めました。

1995年に亡くなるまでその制作活動は続き、膨大な作品を遺しました。

その作品の多くは豊田市美術館（190点超）をはじめ、彼女がその人生の多くを過ごした愛知県のいくつかの美術館に

収められています。2022年には2作品がパリのギメ美術館に収蔵されました。

Born in Tokyo in 1905, Ayako Miyawaki  reached a turning point at the age of 40 with the end of the war. 

Emerging from the long hours spent in air-raid shelters, she felt a profound desire to dedicate herself to a craft of her own. 

She began creating appliqués in her original style, using the simple fabrics she found in her daily life.

This artistic devotion lasted until her death in 1995, resulting in an extraordinary legacy of work.

 While a large portion of her collection is preserved in museums across Aichi Prefecture—most notably 

the Toyota Municipal Museum of Art—her international recognition continues to grow, 

with two pieces being added to the collection of the Musée Guimet in Paris in 2022.
